The Port of Oslo expects 53 cruise ships and a total of about 320,000 passengers in 2012 (up from 315,000 last year) with 163 calls in the peak May to September season and 13 calls in low season.
The Oslo Port Authority has been offering a low season discount to attract more vessels during off-peak periods.

The Norwegian capital continues to draw a broad range of nationalities, led by Germans, then Britons, Americans and Italians. Last year, 101,454 Germans visited by cruise, followed by 36,000 Britons, about 35,000 Americans and 27,000 Italians.

In 2012, AIDA Cruises is operating short voyages from Kiel with a total of 33 calls including 17 overnight stays. Most AIDA calls will be at the southern Akershuskai and Vippetangen, within walking distance of many Oslo attractions.

Cunard Line and P&O Cruises will return with numerous calls, while Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will have three.

Royal Caribbean International continues its turnarounds in Oslo, with seven calls during May and June at the Filipstad quay. Oslo also expects 17 visits from Princess Cruises and 16 from Holland America Line/Seabourn.

This year Costa Cruises has 29 calls booked on Costa neoRomantica, down from the 31 that had been scheduled on Costa Magica, which has been redeployed to the Mediterranean to cover Costa Concordia itineraries. (See separate story.)

MSC Cruises will visit with 19 calls.
