Costa had 31 ships booked to Oslo in 2012. Now two Costa calls to Oslo are canceled. The reason is that Costa Magica is moved from the Northern waters of the Mediterranean to substitute the scheduled Costa Concordia sailings in this area.
Other locations in Norway are badly affected: Bergen loses eight calls, Geiranger seven calls, Stavanger five calls, and North Cape two calls. Costa Magica is replaced with Costa Romantica to Oslo.
Most German cruise passengers in 2011AIDA is sailing short cruises from Kiel to Oslo. In total we have 33 calls from this cruise line this season. 17 of them are over-night, where, for example, the city's diverse music life can be enjoyed. The ships call mostly to the Southern Akershuskai and Vippetangen within walking distance of many attractions in Oslo. A total of 101 454 cruise passengers from Germany visited Oslo in 2011.
Other nationalitiesThe Italian company MSC has 19 calls in Oslo this summer. There is a mix of nationalities on board, but many Italians, of course. In 2011 there were nearly 27 000 Italian cruise tourists.
RCCL continues to do turnaround in Oslo this year. This means that they start and end their cruise in the Filipstad quay in Oslo. This happens seven times during May and June.
The second largest ethnic group on a cruise to Oslo in 2011 was the UKBut Fred. Olsen ships are only "home" three times in 2012. However, Cunard Cruises and P & O Cruises are faithful users of the Port of Oslo with a total of more than 36 000 passengers in 2011.
We are also expecting 17 visits from Princess Cruises and 16 from Holland America Line / Seabourn. There were about 35 000 cruise passengers from the United States in 2011.
A total of 53 different cruise ships are enrolled through the season, and these will be noticed at the harbor. There are big ships calling at the capital with an average gross tonnage of 66 000 gross tons. It is expected that 318 000 cruise tourists will have visited the Port of Oslo before the end of the year. The average number of passengers per ship in Oslo 1806. 163 ships come in peak season from May to September and 13 in low season. Port Authority gives discount in low season to hopefully attract more cruise ships most months of the year.
