Historical Museum in the city centre

The Historical museum opened to the public in 1904 and it is one of Norway's finest examples of the Jugend architectual style.
The museum houses the collection of Norwegian antiquities, including the Treasure Room on the ground floor. The Coin Cabinet is located on the first floor, whilde the etnoraphic collections are found on the first, second and third floors. The ground floor exhibition "From the Ice Age to the coming of Christianity" tells the story of people in Norway from pre-historic to the Medical times, a period over 9,000 years. The Coin Cabinet presents Norway's numismatichistory. The Ethnographic Exhibitions present non-western cultures. The Artic Exhibition takes visitors on a journey to the indigious peoples lf the Artic regions, while the Africa Exhibitions presents artefacts from various African communities. The East Asia Exhibition provides a backdrop for artefacts from Tibet, Mongolia, China, Japan and Korea. The Classical Antiquities Room displays artefacts from the museum's Greek, Roman, Etruscian and Egyptian collections.
