A trip on NSB's Gjøvik Line offers you a fascinating cross-section of Norway and a chance to experience some Norwegian, and indeed European and world, 'record-breakers'. Your journey begins in Oslo, as the train traverses the capital, before passing through the redeveloped Nydalen district, home to the Norwegian School of Management, the country's largest business school and the second largest in Europe. We continue on towards the green belt beyond the metropolis and the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology, one of Oslo's most visited, currently capturing the spirit of the times with its climate exhibition. From here the Gjøvik Line is in beautiful natural surroundings - abundant forests, but also watercourses and rolling, open landscapes, speckled with villages and the occasional small town. The train proceeds to Hadeland, whose attractions include the Hadeland Glassworks, Norway's oldest manufacturing business in continuous operation, the 12th-century Sister Churches, and Iron Age and Viking history. We then pass through Raufoss, a major centre of Norwegian industry, and on to Gjøvik, the terminus for this trip. From Gjøvik, you can take the Skibladner paddle steamer, the oldest working steamship in the world, across the Mjøsa lake, Norway's biggest, and the second deepest in Europe (the deepest also being in Norway). Alternatively, visit the Gjøvik Olympic Mountain Hall, which is the world's largest underground auditorium, having been blasted out of the rock for the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, and Gjøvik's glassworks. The town also offers accommodation and a selection of restaurants. Gjøvik has the charm of a typical small Norwegian town, and a beautiful location on the shores of Mjøsa.
